American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial

Our nation’s first permanent public tribute to disabled veterans past and present

On October 5, 2014, President Obama officially dedicated the American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial as the nation’s first permanent public tribute to the four million living disabled American veterans and all those who have died.  It marked the culmination of a two-decades-long dream of Mrs. Pope to honor in perpetuity the courage of the men and women who have sacrificed so much in defense of our country and freedoms, and to educate legislators and society at large of the human costs of war.  It was spearheaded by the Disabled Veterans LIFE Memorial Foundation, created by Mrs. Pope, Arthur H. Wilson, National Adjutant of the DAV, and the late Jesse Brown, then Secretary of Veterans Affairs.

Mrs. Pope and the Lois Pope LIFE Foundation are currently working with members of  Congress to have October 5, the anniversary of the Memorial’s dedication, declared a national day of tribute, gratitude and support for all disabled veterans.
