Palm Beach, FL (April, 2005) -- It was a glorious evening March 23, 2005 as supporters of LIFE gathered for LIFE's 7th International Wine, Spirits & Food Festival in Mar-aLago Club's Grand Ballroom. All proceeds from this very special evening, benefit Lois Pope's LIFE Summer Camp Program, which sends underprivileged, special needs and homeless children in Palm Beach County to summer camp for the entire summer. This much-anticipated event brought together the world's forest wines, spirits, food and entertainment under one roof giving attendees the unique opportunity to bid in silent and live auctions featuring exceptional wine and luxury items, including six bottles of the extraordinary Screaming Eagle Napa Cabernet ...all for a very worthy cause. More than $100,000 was raised for Lois Pope's LIFE Summer Camp Program.
"What a wonderful night! I am so grateful to Southern Wine & Spirits, Dennis Foley, and of course our dynamic chairman Suzi Goldsmith, for making this evening a success. With all that is going on in the world today, it seems that we often overlook what is going on in our own back yard, and unfortunately, it is children who suffer the consequences" said Mrs. Pope, founder and president of LIFE. "Our goal is to make sure that every child can have the safe, happy, supervised summer camp experience they deserve."
Among those who came to show support for the cause were Paul Pope, Mary and Bob Montgomery, Shirley and Robert Wyner, Jeff Bateman, Ildiko Varga and Alexis Mercentes, Susan Chambers, Terry and A1 Ebert, Sunny and Leonard Sessa, John Raimondi, Arlette Gordon. High bidders for the evening were Valeria and Dan Young Patrick Park, Bruce Vogel and Ray Glynn.
Suzi Goldsmith, who has served as chairman of this spectacular event since its inception, worked with Irv Rubenstein of Southern Wine and Spirits to create a memorable evening. The expertise of Ms. Goldsmith combined with that of Dennis Foley, a rare wine consultant from Zachy's, San Francisco ensured that the event was a pleasure for serious collectors and dabblers alike. Mel Dick, President of the Wine Division of Southern Wine and Spirits contributed all of the wine and spirits which included fine wines from around the world and a variety of different spirits including vodka, rum and tequila. Guests enjoyed also sumptuous appetizers and food stations throughout the evening, specially prepared by the renowned chefs at Mar-a-Lago. Live entertainment was provided by the Fabulons.
Proceeds benefit Lois Pope's LIFE Summer Camp Program for underprivileged and special needs children who live in households that fall below the national poverty level. LIFE has sent over 11,000 children to camp and with this event LIFE members and supporters hope to send many more this coming summer.
