Annual Grant Gives New Lives To Women In The Sudan
In the past four years more people have been killed or displaced in Sudan than in Bosnia, Kosovo and Rwanda put together. This is one of the worst humanitarian disasters of the last generation.
In recent years there has been a great focus on the events in the Darfur region where more than 50,000 people have died. For the last four years, the Lois Pope LIFE Foundation has provided a $200,000 grant to conduct a grass roots campaign to voice and act on these concerns.
Following the model of the Lost Boys of the Sudan, this campaign is sponsoring refugees from the Sudan most at risk, unaccompanied women still living in Kakuma. As the young women come to America and to freedom to begin new lives, all their initial living expenses are covered by Mrs. Pope's generosity and public assistance.

The Lois Pope LIFE Foundation and LIFE (Leaders In Furthering Education) are two charitable organizations established by Lois Pope. The goals of these two organizations are to help people help themselves, to save lives, to improve the quality of life for families in need and to encourage young Americans to become leaders by helping others. The LIFE Board of Directors is dedicated to raising funds to keep underprivileged children off the streets and out of harm during the summer by sending them to camp. It costs $350 to send a child to camp for the entire summer. Since its inception, LIFE's Summer Camp Program has enabled more than 11,000 children to attend camp.
