$1 Million Gift To The Disabled Veterans' Life Memorial Foundation
Delray Beach, FL -- Leo N. Albert, a Palm Beach resident and retired Chairman of the Board of Prentice-Hall International Publishers, has recently presented a gift of One Million Dollars to the Disabled Veterans' LIFE Memorial Foundation. This donation will aid the construction of the American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial in Washington D.C.
"I am truly touched and humbled by Leo's generosity. Our disabled veterans are the reason we live with the freedom and hope that we do today," said Arthur H. Wilson, president of the Disabled Veterans' LIFE Memorial Foundation. "These brave men and women stood in the line of fire to preserve our freedom . . . how can we not honor their incredible sacrifices?"
Mrs. Lois Pope is president and founder of LIFE (Leaders In Furthering Education) and the LIFE Foundation. She is also chairman and co-founder of the Disabled Veterans' LIFE Memorial Foundation, an organization with the goal of building national memorial in Washington, D. C. honoring the 3 million disabled American veterans and all throughout history who have sacrificed so much for our country.

Leo Albert served four years in the Marine Corps and served in World War II. "I have seen first hand the destruction of war and how the lives of our brave soldiers are changed," said Albert. "It only takes seconds for a young person to be maimed, but it takes a lifetime to recover. There are many great programs that aide our veterans who return home but we can never do enough to honor their sacrifice. One thing we can do is to make sure that they are permanently remembered through the construction of this Memorial. It will serve as the first and only memorial dedicated to our country's disabled veterans -- a living memorial which will educate millions of American's about dedication, courage and patriotism for generations to come."
A bill establishing the memorial has been passed by Congress and has been unanimously approved by The National Capital Memorial Commission. The approved site is located near the Capitol and across from the U.S. Botanic Garden. This site is in a very visible location where members of Congress will see it often. In addition to her tireless work on behalf of the Memorial, each year Mrs. Lois Pope gives the Disabled Veterans' LIFE Award of $50,000, to honor an outstanding veteran who has demonstrated heroic efforts in surmounting disability and whose contribution to the community serves as an inspiration to others.
