Dinner For Disabled American Veterans Raises Funds And Awareness

Washington, D.C. -- Actor Gary Sinise, who stars in the CBS-TV show "CSI: NY" was the special guest at The America Veterans Disabled For Life Awards Gala on Tuesday, April 25, at The Pierre in New York City. Sinise, whose performance as a disabled Vietnam veteran in "Forrest Gump" earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor, paid tribute to American soldiers injured in the current war on terror in Iraq and elsewhere. All proceeds from this event will go to building the nation's first "living memorial" to the three million disabled American veterans alive today and the countless thousands who have since died. The co-chairs of this fabulous event were philanthropist Lois Pope, co-founder and chairman of the Disabled Veterans LIFE Memorial Foundation, which is spearheading the $65 million campaign to build the memorial, Arthur H. Wilson, National Adjutant of the Disabled American Veterans, Anthony J. Principi, immediate past U.S. Secretary of Veterans Affairs, and Richard M. Ditizio, managing director and U.S. Head, HNW, The Citgroup Private Bank. Philanthropist Leo N. Albert, the Fifth Third Foundation, the Ford Motor Company Fund, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, were honored, as was John J. Devine, a disabled veteran who was recipient of the 2006 Unsung Hero Award. Dick Robinson, CEO of Robinson Media Group, served as the host.
